South Indian and Sri Lankan restaurant opens in Hull's Princes Avenue - and it sounds delicious!

A South Indian and Sri Lankan restaurant has opened in Princes Avenue, offering a unique change to your traditional curry house.

Spice of South India has taken over the former Wild Air premises at the top of Princes Avenue, and opened last night for the customers to get their hands on some truly authentic South Indian fare.

South Indian and Sri Lankan food is predominantly vegetarian, but there are meat dishes also available for those who prefer it.

Prasanth Ps, manager of Spice of South India, said: “We wanted to expand and become bigger after owning the Tamil Brasserie in Beverley Road.

Why we are the best:

1. We are different to other curry houses in the area because we only cook truly authentic South Indian and Sri Lankan dishes, which even means we don’t serve naan bread because it’s not true to the culture.

2.We concentrate on chapatis, parathas and rotis, as well as vegetable or brinjal curries and stir fries. We even import our beer direct from Sri Lanka, so it is a truly authentic feel.

3.For meat eaters, we offer on-the-bone curries, because that creates so much more flavour, and we do create fusion curries such as brinjal and chicken.

4. The renovation of the new restaurant has taken a month to complete, with the outdoor seating area one of the final elements still to be finished.

5.There is a seating area for 68 covers inside, and a bar area for people to wait before they are served as well as come in for authentic beers and cocktails.

6. Our main focus is all about the food, though, and we don’t want to spend too much time getting the bar ready when we can spend that time creating delicious food.

7. We promise to offer food with plenty of spices and taste, which is why we have called it Spice of South India.

8. There will be no traditional British curries, only ones that are eaten in South India and Sri Lanka.
